Senator Gerald Malloy


Senator Gerald Malloy has represented District 29 for almost two decades, taking office in 2002. He is the proud son of John A. and Geraldine Malloy. He has been happily married to his wife, Davita McFarland, for 30 years, and they have four children: Donovan, Jonathan, Jordan and Morgan. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in 1984 and continued his studies in the Professional Masters of Business Administration. After graduation, he was admitted to practice in the South Carolina Courts and Federal District Court.


Sen. Malloy has distinguished himself by taking on responsibilities to further his service to our state such as serving as President of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, serving on the Judicial Qualifications Committee of the South Carolina Bar Association, being a representative for the Fourth Judicial Circuit for Young Lawyers Division, South Carolina Bar Association and serving as chairman of the Public Defenders Board of Darlington County Bar Association. Other roles include Chairman for the Hartsville Recreation Commission, former president of the Hartsville Northern Youth Baseball League and serving on the Hartsville Downtown Development Board.


Sen. Malloy has been recognized for his dedication to South Carolina and has received many awards that include: the Home Rule Award by S.C Association of Counties in 2003, the S.C. Library Association Friend of the Libraries in 2004, and the S.C. Public Defender Association Legislator of the Year Award in 2007. He also received the South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense Distinguished Service Award in 2008 that was later named the Gerald Malloy Distinguished Service Award and is awarded annually. Sen. Malloy has also been recognized by the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice for his support of the Teen After School Centers (TASC) Program in 2007.

Sen. Malloy and his family currently reside in Hartsville, S.C.
